AMETEK Engineered Interconnect and Packaging Contribute to NASA's DISSIPATION Mission

Hermetic Seal Corporation, part of AMETEK Engineered Interconnect and Packaging (EIP), played a crucial role in the success of NASA’s DISSIPATION mission, a sounding rocket launched from the Poker Flat Range in Fairbanks, Alaska. The rocket measured multiple different parameters in the upper atmosphere using a Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer (QMS) to determine how auroras heat the atmosphere and induce high-altitude winds. Hermetic Seal Corporation’s headers and feedthroughs were essential components on the QMS.

Mitchell Hammann, Mechanical Design Engineer at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, emphasized the importance of Hermetic Seal’s contributions, stating, “These parts perform critical sealing functions to enable us to provide voltages to various electrostatic elements inside our sensor. These pieces require very tight tolerances for the instrument to function and must withstand high vibration loading during launch. Since the QMS is the heart of the DISSIPATION mission, we would not have been successful without AMETEK’s ability to deliver these parts.”
